"Thomas, I/we know you're busy with the songsmithing and the multi-instrumentalizing and the crooning and all that, but when are you gonna play a real rock show, like maybe in a Power Trio lineup?"

Well, I'll tell you when I'm gonna do that, persons......

Tomorrow night at Neurolux it's the Idaho Black History Museum Benefit Show with Harvey Krishna (haven't heard them yet), T.Paul Tri-Force and a.k.a. Belle (a personal favorite). Shindig starts at 8 PM, 21+. 5$ Cover all proceeds go to IBHM. I will personally buy a well drink or draft beer for first 3 people to come up to me and say the name 'Clifton Powell'. He played 'Cutty' in Dead Presidents, one of my favorite movies. Check him out here.

Did I mention that Sunday is my day of birth? No!? Well, it is. All day.

To celebrate we're having some people over to The Bouquet on Saturday Night.

It's a free show! And there's a ton of great music. Bernie Reilly, New Transit, Central City Music Company, and the T. Paul Fourtet to be precise. And Special Guests! The fun starts at 9 PM. I know there's a lot of rad things going on Saturday night, but if you're in the neighborhood stop by and ask the bartender if he/she makes a good (ridiculous shot here) and listen to the music. You'll be glad you did. AND! It's basically a Central City Music Company CD Release Party! They weren't sure if they should call it that but this is my email and I get what I want, Daddy.....

Hey Lovesies!

It is exciting times. The changing weather is always a plus and many of my projects have exciting forward momentum as we pole vault towards the Newest of Years™!!!

I have been singing and playing a number of instruments in harmony with local tunesmiths GIZZARD STONE. Our debut album is in the final stages of recording and mixing. Meanwhile, you can enjoy the full band on each of the next 2 Tuesdays at Liquid and TONIGHT! in acoustic trio form at LOCK, STOCK, & BARREL on the corner of 11th and Jefferson. We sing for our supper and yours from 8 PM to 11 PM.

Tomorrow brings an exciting new performance opportunity. I will be providing music and entertainment for the SUNDAY MARKET at THE LINEN BUILDING this SUNDAY November 15 from 10 AM-3 PM. Handcrafted gifts, local organic brunch from Open Table, and so much much more!!! My traditional Red Feather Brunch gig will be more than ably manned by the esteemed Ryan Wissinger of Gizzard Stone fame.

Monday night finds me at my absototesfave™ RED FEATHER LOUNGE for Monday evening fun and frivolity with Mark Allen and all your favorite beautiful people. If only the finest in local food, drink and music will do for you, then you too should join us for Woo-Hoo! we recently had a last minute Hootenanny at Pengilly's on Wednesday. A dang fine time was had by all, and Muchos Muchos Garcias go out to Jeremiah James for the generous opportunity he hath provided. Wednesday the Gizzard Stone Power Trio Unit Thingy is in full-battle armor at Crusty's in McCall. Great place, great pizza, great beer, great people..... We start around 7 PM and it's FREE FOR THE WHOLE FAMILY!

Thursday (First Thursday, that is....) finds me singing for my supper at A Novel Adventure , a terrific bookstore on Main St. between 9th & 10th. I'll be joined again by the unstoppable tectonic plate that is Bernie W. Reilly on mandolin and God knows what else. We play from 6-9 pm and of course i should tell you it is FREE FOR THE WHOLE FAMBLY!

Friday it is my great pleasure to welcome to our fair city the fine folks from J.D. Kindle & The Eastern Oregon Playboys . TOMORROW! (Tuesday) T. Paul Quartet @ Hijinx Comedy Club with Ryan Peckopening. Show starts at 930. 5$ cover, 21+. I'm fully stoked, both on playing a hot set with local legends Dave Manion, Bob Nagel and Blake Durst, and on the fact that comedy once again has a permanent home in Boise. We're probably going to play at around 1030 and we will be running a good chunk of everybody's favorite Boise release of 2009,House On Fire . FRIDAY! The lovely and talented Gizzard Stone (see above) is rocking Tom Grainey's upstairs. It's 21+ and there is probably a minimal cover. A small price to pay to see and be seen by the right people. We prolly rock 9 PM - 2 AM or something like that. Get bad.

For a large percentage of my elementary school years, Star Trek (The Original Series) was on at 4 pm, through the miracle of syndication. Was syndication the birth of modern nostalgia?

The joy in the air at Prairie Dog Playhouse is palpable. From the laughs of the children that sometimes border on screams, to the giggles of the adults who can forget about everything for a while, to the groans at the amazing puns, to the squirms of the first-time attendees who are unfamiliar with the uncertainty of audience participation. You can feel it. It's a real thing. It matters, perhaps now more than ever, to laugh and sigh at silliness and slapstick comedy.

And it's my job to make it musical.

We start with a number of songs from the fabric of popular culture parodied in order to apply them to the script. Artists whose works are currently being mangled by myself and the cast include: Dead Eye Dick, Alanis Morrisette, David Bowie, Bay City Rollers, and tunes from TV shows The Jeffersons and Looney Tunes, as well as the song from a certain commercial that shall not be mentioned by name. But this is only beginning.

The rest of the time, and this is where the real juice is for me, is in composing a live soundtrack or score for the action on and off stage. Punctuating the pratfalls, accentuating the oddness, ratcheting up the tension, gooeying up the love scenes; these are but a few of my tasks. I make the bad guys badder and the good guys more goody. To use a term first made aware to me by Saint Francis of Zappa, I am charged with creating 'harmonic aroma'. Themes or songs explored in the current show include but are not limited to:

The Captain Of Her Heart - Double

Mr. Roboto

a song from the 1st episode of The Muppet Show

The list could go on and on and on and it doesn't even mention the original compositions which wind their way through, in and around the scripted material. You have to see it to believe your ears. Like Frederick Scott says "It's never the same show twice...."

The show runs every Friday, Saturday and Sunday from April 17- May 9.There's an OPEN DRESS REHEARSAL tonight that just so happens to be FREE!

Seriously.

Whilst grabbing a cup of Brittanie's finest and waiting for my Brunch

gig, it occurs to me..... I don't know a single song about Jesus or bunnies. However, I do know several songs about people who think they were/are Jesus/bunnies. I think i will stick with these songs today.

Last night was a trip. 3 sets at the Lock followed by a quick run to the Hyde Park Pub & Grill (seriously? I thought it was Harry's) to join messers Chris Gutierrez and Mike Baltzell for 2 sets on accordion. I am truly fortunate to have so many musical opportunities.

If i weren't performing this morning/afternoon, I would probably be here to watch this mere legend.

Tomorrow it's Bernie Reilly and I at Red Feather from 8-11 pm for your Blue Monday fix. Although he is one of the funniest people I've met in a long time, he is also no joke.

Thursday in Pendleton was so very loverly. Ken and all at The Great Pacific and really the whole town of Pendleton have a way of making you feel so good about simply doing what you do. It's an honor and a privilege to perform for such fantastic humans.

Friday was incredible. Thanks to all who came out and listened and cheered and drank and laughed and talked and left. not a moment of your presence is taken for granted.

Last night we played at The Flying M Coffeegarage in Nampa with JDK & TEOP and a really great band from Long Beach CA called The Fling. Great tunes, killer tones, awesome 7"s, and ZINES(!!!) for sale. You know I'm a big zine hound. Well now you know....
